A couple of weeks ago as I was going to bed, I read about a practice that one of my favorite authors and spiritual teachers, Liz Gilbert, does right before bed to wrap up the day in a positive way. I quickly found a stack of post=it notes (not too hard for me because I'm a post-it not freak) and a couple of Sharpies and stashed all but one of them in my night stand. I started my Joy Jar practice right then and there. The next day I found a container in our kitchen cabinets that would be suitable for the first few months - I will get something bigger when the time comes.
So far, I've noticed that I usually have more than one thing every day that brought me great joy, and even on my not-so-good days, there's always something to smile about. See the photo below of some of my favorite moments of 2017 so far.
How do you end your day? Thinking of what you didn't get done? Stressing about what you have to get done tomorrow? Checking your phone to see how many Facebook likes you got? Try this instead. It takes less than a minute and I promise you will feel good and sleed soundly as a result.
I help people be true to their inner calling and lead the life they love.
