“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight and no vision.”
- Helen Keller
Yesterday I led a group of amazing career women (and a few men!) in creating their vision boards for 2018 and beyond. It was an awesome experience! I've made my own vision board every year for the last several years, but to watch other people dream and get excited about what's to come is way more satisfying. Even more than that, the fact that a company hosted this as a workshop for their employees is even cooler.
f you haven't made your vision board this year, it's not to late and here are 3 great reasons to do so:
1. Vision boards help you clarify what you really, really want, and when you know what you want, you're WAY more likely to see it come to pass. Not having a vision is kind of like driving without a destination set in your GPS. Not only will you never arrive anywhere, you'll tend to live by default, which means you'll follow the crowd. And in case you haven't noticed, there are a lot of unhappy, unhealthy people in that crowd. Clarity equals power, so own your power and clarify your vision by making a vision board.
2. Vision boards help you think in pictures, which is how your brain likes to think. When I say the word "house," what do you think of? Most likely you see a picture in your mind of your current house or a house you lived in in the past. Our brains don't see words when we think, they see pictures. Pictures make us feel a certain way, and feelings amplify our connection and energy to something. When you put pictures to your goals and focus on how you want to FEEL when you achieve them, you energize those pictures in your mind which helps with the next reason to make a vision board.
3. Vision boards activate the filter of your brain, better known as the reticular formation. This area of your brain filters all of your senses, except for smell, and allows in the information that fits with the picture of who you think you are. Because we are all bombarded with so much information in any one moment, our brains would be in overdrive if we didn't have this filter. If you want something new and different in your life, you must change your filter to see things like you've never seen them before. A vision board helps to open up your filter to create what you want to be, do and have.
Now it's your turn! Get yourself a poster board or canvas, some old magazines, glue and scissors and get to it. I promise you'll be glad you did! I'd love to see a picture when you're done, so feel free to post in the comments.
I help people be true to their inner calling and lead the life they love.
