In case you haven’t noticed there’s quite a bit of tension in the world these days. This is causing people to not always show up as the best version of themselves. Unfortunately, it’s easier to get sucked into what’s happening and react to the tension than it is to consciously choose something else. This is called ‘living by default.’ Since everything is energy and energy is everything, if you get sucked into the crappy vibes of others, it lowers your vibration and keeps you from creating the joyful, abundant life you desire.
It ain’t easy, and you’re mind will probably think of everything it can to keep you in a holding patter (because that’s what our brains do) you must rise above.
I’m not asking you to give up on what you believe in and float away on a cloud of selfish ecstasy, but I kinda am. Now’s the time to wake up and go on a journey to align your thoughts, emotions and actions to the highest good. You can only uplift others to your level of upliftment (if that’s a word). The higher you go, the more you have to offer others.
Practice the activities below on the regular to raise your vibration to be of most benefit to yourself and others.
Breathe deeply. Breathing deeply gets oxygen to your brain and distributes it abundantly into every cell of your body, allowing you to think clearly, lowering blood pressure, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.
Meditate for 10 minutes. Sit quietly in a comfortable seated position and close your eyes. Breath deeply and focus on your inhales and exhales, or count them. Thoughts will arise and distractions will come up. That’s ok. Go back to your breath. Developing a reflective mind through meditation helps us become an ‘impartial spectator’ of ourselves, which not only helps us respond with more awareness, but also improves our relationships with others.
Practice 10 minutes of yoga. Think of yoga as a moving meditation. Find a quick 10 minute practice on You Tube, or if you practice regularly, do a few sun salutations or favorite poses. Yoga is beneficial for developing a strong connection and awareness between to physical body and the mind.
Take a walk. It’s best if you can do this outside, and optimal if you can interact with nature along the way. Notice the trees, the leaves, flowers, blades of grass. Breath in the fresh air. Let your mind wander and create a walking meditation if you feel inspired simply by counting your steps and your breaths.
Laugh out loud. What makes you laugh out loud? Chat with a funny friend. Watch a hilarious video clip. Make silly faces at yourself in the mirror. Get your dog hyped up and watch him run around in circles in the yard (my personal fave!).
Listen to music you love. For me, sometimes this is a hard core, pump me up rock song, like Beast of Burden. Other times it’s putting new age music on while I’m working. Not only does it lift my mood, but it also improves my focus.
Write down 10 things you’re grateful for. Every morning, every evening and as often as you feel like it, praise God, Buddah, Allah, all-that-is for all the amazingness that is your life. You may be tired of hearing this one, but people keep talking about it because THIS S#(% WORKS!
Relax in a salt bath. Find some Epsom, sea or Himilayan salt. Dump 1 cup in a piping hot bath. Stir. Sit. Relax. Let the salt suck in your crappy vides. Salt is known for it’s detoxifying power. This is a healthier version of ‘Calgon take me away.’
Play with your kids (or somebody elses). Children generally have a higher vibe than adults because they are unwilling to take on other people’s crappy energy. They play in their own world, making it whatever they need or want it to be in the moment. They live and love fully in the moment. Let their energy raise your vibration and take you back to when you were just like them!
Pet your animals. Animals have a unique ability to calm our nerves and soothe our souls. Because they exude unconditional love, they atune us to that same frequency. Plus their furry cuddles and sweet kisses are too sweet to resist!
Turn off electronics. Unplug from social media. Turn off the television and tablets. Sit in complete silence and be ok with yourself. Electronics often charge us up in an unproductive and sometimes negative way (and that’s before seeing your high school friend’s political rant).
Ask yourself Who does this belong to? over and over again. 98% of the emotions that we feel actually don’t belong to us. They were programmed into us by our parents, teachers, friends, co-workers and/or we pick them up from the others around us. Anytime you feel heavy or uneasy, ask yourself, “Who does this belong to?” and then say “Return to sender, consciously.” I learned this trick from the practice of Access Consciousness and am hooked!
Walk barefoot in the grass. Take off your shoes and hit the turf. Feeling the earth below your feet and the blade of grass tickling your toes is incredibly grounding. When you’re in a head spin, there’s no better place to take yourself than your backyard.
Visualize the future. Sit quietly and ask yourself, “What do I really, really want?” Close your eyes and picture yourself being, doing and having what you imagined. Our imaginations are the starting point to everything that we create in our lives, so why not intentionally use it to create a life you love instead of settling for the status quo.
Clean out a messy space in your home. You know that junk drawer you have in your kitchen? Spend 15 minutes throwing out useless junk and organize what’s left. If you have more time, organize an armoire, closet or any other space that’s been zapping your energy every time you look at it or think about it.
What will you choose to raise your vibes and be the best version of you?
I help people be true to their inner calling and lead the life they love.
